Verona E. Pries, 92, of Sumner, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Private family funeral services will be held at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Iowa. Public visitation where friends may call will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner. Memorials may be given to the family for designation to a charity to be chosen later.
Verona Edna, daughter of Carl and Clara (Mohlis) Warnke, was born June 24, 1922, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized July 16, 1922 and confirmed August 5, 1936 at St John Lutheran Church in Sumner. She received her education in the Sumner Public Schools. On March 5, 1946, she was united in marriage with Donald L. Pries, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Verona was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the farm. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and enjoyed gardening, chickens, sewing, crocheting, all handwork, and cooking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially playing cards with Stacy.
She is survived by three children, LuAnn Meyer of Independence, Linda Ferguson of Fairbank, Lyle (Tami Abernathy) Pries of Sumner; two grandchildren, Stacy (Eric) Pedrick of Tamarac, Florida and Marshall (Brooke) Meyer of Denver and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Pedrick; and one brother, Raymond (Marjorie) Warnke of Maynard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, in 1987; son-in-law, Bud Ferguson; two brothers, Lester and Leo Warnke; and three sisters, Margaret Seehase, Mildred Judisch, and Doretta Seehase.
